3. General conditions for applying for a Schengen C visa
Applications must be submitted no later than six months and at least 15 calendar days before the start of the intended journey. If there are less than 16 days left from the date of submission to travel, the visa application will not be accepted. Consulates shall not be liable for any delay in submitting the application or for any travel that may be unsuccessful.
In duly justified, urgent and particularly appreciable individual cases, the mission may allow applications to be submitted within a period of 15 calendar days before the start of the intended journey.
The processing time for applications is 15 calendar days, which can be changed to a maximum of 45 calendar days.
- APPLICATION FORM
A completed and legible completed visa application form must be submitted (in the case of a minor applicant, both parents must sign the application). The questionnaire is free of charge, can be obtained from consulates or can be downloaded from the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (https://konzinfo.mfa.gov.hu/en/visa-application-forms).
- TRAVEL DOCUMENT
The applicant must have a valid passport which:
- contains at least two blank pages
- was issued within the previous 10 years
- is valid for at least three months beyond the date of departure from the territory of the Member States or, in the case of multiple stays, from the date of the last intended departure from the territory of the Member States
- PHOTO
- The application must be accompanied by a color photograph of the size of 1 ID card (affixed to the visa application form) that is not older than 6 months.
- BIOMETRIC IDENTIFIERS
The applicant's biometric data (fingerprint, photograph) must be taken at the time of application.
Fingerprints are not required for recording if you have provided fingerprints within 59 months in connection with a previous visa application.
The following applicants are exempt from the obligation to provide fingerprints:
o Children under 12 years of age
o persons for whom fingerprinting is physically impossible
o Heads of state and government arriving on an official trip at the invitation of the governments of the member states or international organizations, as well as members of national governments and their accompanying spouses, as well as members of their official delegations;
o monarchs arriving on official trips at the invitation of member states' governments or international organizations, as well as other high-ranking members of the royal family

The visa fee does not need to be deducted for applicants belonging to one of the following categories:
o Children under 6 years of age
o pupils, students, postgraduate students and teaching assistants staying for study or educational purposes
o researchers from third countries who, for the purpose of carrying out scientific research as defined in Recommendation 2005/761/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 September 2005 on the facilitation of the issuance of uniform visas entitling them to short-term residence in the case of researchers coming to the Community from third countries for the purpose of scientific research they travel
o representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 or younger who participate in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations
4. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
In addition to basic documents (completed and signed application form, color ID with photo, passport), the following documents must be submitted for any purpose of entry and stay:
1. the applicant must have travel and health insurance valid for the entire duration of his stay and in the territory of all Schengen Member States, covering all costs related to repatriation in the territory of the Member States for medical reasons, emergency medical treatment and / or emergency hospital treatment or death; during their stay (minimum coverage EUR 30,000)
2. Documents proving the conditions for entry into and return to/in the Schengen area (airplane ticket/means of transport)
3. Documents in relation to accommodation
- in the case of commercial accomodation: hotel booking confirmation
- in the case of private accomodation:
- acceptance statement of owner(s).
- copies of owner's document
- property title deed (authentic or not)
- rental contract
4. Proof of financial means
- If the applicant is employed:

7. Documents relating to proof of purpose of entry and residence
Tourist purpose:
- detailed program plan
- declaration of purpose
- itinerary
- In the case of travel agency:
- travel agency company registration certificate, certificate/license of the right to organize international travel
- payment certificates for the operation of the travel agency and bank statements from the last 3 months
- If the trip is organized jointly with a foreign partner travel agency: agreement between two travel agencies (*)
- travel agency guarantee letter (*)
- proof of payment for an organized trip
- passenger list
- program plan
- prepaid accommodation reservation
Visiting friend or family purpose:
- invitation letter/declaration on the purpose of entry and stay (the declaration contains: personal data of the inviting party and invitee, who invites whom and for what purpose, how many days and for what duration the invitation is for, where the invitation is addressed, what kind of relationship they have with each other, inviting company this other obligation regarding the invitee)
- copies of the inviting party's document
- if relative: proof of family relationship: birth/marriage certificate of the inviting party
- if a friend: statement about the nature of the relationship
- other document on the purpose of entry and stay
Business purpose:
- an invitation letter from a business partner/company, which contains: the exact purpose of the invitation, duration, location, details of the inviting party and the invited person, whether the inviter undertakes any other obligations in relation to the invitee
- proof of the existence of trade-business relations (e.g. contracts, agreements, orders, invoice transactions)
- company registration certificates (*)
- documents certifying the operation of the company (tax payment)
- company's bank statements for the last 3 months
Study purpose:
- confirmation of the receiving institution
- study contract (if any)
- certificate of school attendance/certificate of student status (if applicable)
- document certifying education (e.g. diploma (if applicable))
- In the case of continuing education/company training:
- employment contract, employer's certificate, company certificate (*)
- continuing education program
- other relevant documents
Sport purpose:
- accreditation certifying participation in a Hungarian sports competition
- a contract with a Hungarian sports association
- confirmation of the sending association / Olympic committee / main authority responsible for sports
- host association invitation letter
- certificate of sports activity
Conference purpose:
- conference organizer's invitation
- proof of participation (performer/or audience only)
- confirmation of the sending organization
- a document confirming the payment of the conference participation fee
- detailed conference program
Cultural purpose:
- commission contract concluded with a cultural service provider
- invitation for creative work
- invitation from the organizer of the event
- event program
Medical treatment purpose:
- medical certificate of the existing illness
- confirmation of the receiving medical institution
- other proof of medical treatment coverage
- statement why it is necessary to treat the disease abroad
Official visit purpose:
- a document confirming the official invitation addressed to the government of the third country concerned by the government of the inviting country
- a certificate sent by the authority of the third country concerned to confirm that the applicant is a member of a delegation traveling to the territory of a member state in order to participate in official events
- verbal note
Scientific research purpose:
- invitation letter from the inviting organization/company
- certificates of the sending organization/company from a trip abroad
- statement about the research
Voluntary service purpose:
- invitation letter from the inviting organization/company
- certificates of the sending organization/company from a trip abroad
- declaration of voluntary activity
For Other purposes of entry that do not fall into any other category: the visa applicant's declaration for the purpose of entry and stay.
In the case of carriers, a certificate or application from the carrier.
A document certifying the existence of the grave and the degree of kinship for the purpose of visiting the grave of a relative buried in Hungary.
Attention! The above list of possible supporting documents is indicative and not exhaustive. The scope of the documents required to submit a visa application is determined by the consul, depending on local circumstances and taking into account all the circumstances of the specific case, and may be changed or modified at any time.
